Winter Shut down: In temperate climates where the water temperature in your pool does not go below freezing, the winter shutdown is very simple, you reduce the amount of chlorine you are adding to your pool and reduce the equipment run times as you do not need to filter as much Adding a winterizer, a small dose of algaecide, can compliment the reduced chlorine content and keep algae and molds at bay. For a salt chlorination system, reducing the run time and turning down the chlorination system will reduce the amount of chlorine being produced. Too much chlorine can be damaging to the pool equipment and pool covers. If your pool is in an area that the pool water will go below freezing you must take extra care to drain all the pool pumps and equipment, take out the drain plugs to ensure water does not build up again in the system. During the winter months, Do an occasional water test to ensure chlorine and Ph are at the correct levels for your pool, incorrect chemistry in your pool can have a long term damaging effect on the pool surface and equipment around your pool. This can severely limit the life of the equipment. Consult with your local Pool Shop or Pool professional for information regarding your pool and equipment. Tip: Store the drain plug for you pump and other equipment in the lint basket of your pump so it wont get lost. https://itunes.apple/us/app/how2pool-lite/id582983389?mt=8
