Winter Storm Outlook: Watch out Texas! A wintry mix of freezing rain/sleet/snow hits you for Friday through Sunday. Runs from the Red River down south to San Antonio and points W/SW. Amounts look fairly light overall for a 3 day total, but if youre traveling pay attention to the bridges and overpasses. This is being caused by a strong upper low not being detected well in the model data sneaking in underneath the main polar jet stream to the north, which is driving in the arctic air masses. The confluent flow aloft should keep the bulk of this out of OK until Sunday. At that time the light precip will reside over the E 1/3 of OK and right now it looks like temps will be below freezing, but barely, so another close call. So it will be either light glaze of ice or a cold rain. After that, another cold front arrives late Sunday night/Monday morning so moisture will get trapped between the inversion and very light freezing rain and/or drizzle will occur across most of OK possibly changing over to a very light dusting of snow or just flurries as the air dries out and the cold air deepens. Although precip amounts look to be less than a tenth of an inch, thats all it takes to create travel issues. So this will be something to keep an eye on. In addition I could see this same outcome repeated for both Tuesday due to warm air advection riding over the cold air and Wednesday as another front moves in, unless.... One model is just now catching on to a system to arrive on Tuesday the 13th, and is producing a couple of inches of snow with it over a large area. Time will tell if this pans out, but we are in an active pattern with continuous shots of cold air.
