Winter Storm Warning In Effect beginning Saturday evening. A strengthening coastal storm will bring snow mixed with rain at times along with very strong wind to central and eastern Maine. The first wave of precipitation will arrive this afternoon into this evening with rain changing to snow. More significant precipitation will arrive with the main system late tonight and continuing Sunday. We expect strong wind along with snow heavy at times. For Sunday, the snow will likely mix with rain and even some sleet at times over Washington and Hancock counties. Possibly even as far north and west as Bangor. Storm totals of 7 to 14 inches of snow are likely by Sunday night away from the immediate coast. The highest amounts look to occur over interior Washington and Hancock counties north and west into southern Penobscot and southeastern Aroostook counties. Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 8 pm EDT this evening to 1 am EST Monday. Accumulations: snow accumulation of 7 to 14 inches along with trace accumulations of ice possible. Locations: Northeast, East Central, Downeast Maine. Hazard types: Heavy snow and strong wind. Timing: Saturday evening through Sunday evening. Winds: north 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Temperatures: in the lower 30s. Visibilities: one quarter mile or less at times. Impacts: The Heavy wet snow along with strong winds will result in very difficult travel conditions starting Saturday evening and continuing Sunday. In addition. Since the snow will be wet in nature this will lead to significant build up on trees and power lines resulting in scattered to numerous power outages especially where the leaves are still on the trees.
