Winter offers unique opportunities and challenges for our restoration team (Tom Biebighauser, Robin Annschild, and Tony McLeod) who are braving the below zero temperatures to create wetlands in Meadow Creek, BC. The frozen ground gave us access to an otherwise saturated field, but we had to clear snow before the wetland could be created. Property owners, Terry and Michele, have waited nearly a decade for this moment. They hope to enhance habitat for Western Toad, Grizzly Bears, and other wildlife species. The project will compliment wetland enhancement plans for neighbouring Nature Trust of BC property. Phase 1 of this project could not occur without the financial support from Environment Canada, Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program, Columbia Basin Trust, Wildlife Habitat Canada, and BC Wildlife Federation.
