Wise to listen •o• Fighting high-tech death squads and spies in space: Bruce Gagnon By Joan Livingston May 4, 2013 Long-time peace activist Bruce Gagnon speaks during the opening session of a late-April Syracuse convergence on resisting drones, wars, and empire. He notes the spiritual sickness of a nation that invests in targeted killing from afar, endless wars for resources, and persistent surveillance abroad and at home--rather than using citizens tax dollars to alleviate poverty, support social programs, address climate change, and solve other real needs. Technological advances have made it possible for the United States to engage in mass killing at the touch of a button and to build the Taj Mahal of the police state for domestic spying, but only with the complicity of politicians and with an assist from corporate media that misrepresent the true nature and costs of wars, drones, and the entire military-industrial complex. Bruce spoke as part of a panel with Kathy Kelly and David Swanson; later explained the American policy of full-spectrum dominance; and (after the final comments about shown here) joined a funeral-procession march to Hancock Air Force base, one from which drones are deployed. At the base, Bruce joined other veterans in reading the names, ages, and nationalities of some of the many civilians killed by U.S. drone warfare. He also joined the more than 30 peaceful protestors who were arrested on various charges for their efforts to stop war crimes from being committed; the activists were protesting war crimes, Gagnon later wrote in his blog, while the local police chose to *protect* war crimes.
