Wish I had a screen capture of this but I dont. Havent watched the Royals a lot this year, opting (because in the Internet age, I can) to watch the National League West race, Toronto, and Oakland. Tuned into the Royals last night and was shocked at the difference. This BTW is NOT about Billy Butler. Gordon walks. Its relatively late in the game and the Royals arent scoring much. With no outs, Butler runs the count then manages a ground ball to the right side to move Gordon to second. Heres what I wish I had captured. He goes back to the dugout, all the players are gathered at the rail in hoods, not one acknowledges the guy who just did what hes supposed to do and moves the runner along. Not a single one even looks back at him. Not a coach. No one. Had that been the Dodger or Giant dugout, he would have been greeted with high-fives no less than if he hit a homerun. What the hell is going on? Then Hosmer does hit a home run and when he comes back he gets some high-fives but he is absolutely the single most energetic guy in the dugout. It isnt like homeruns have become commonplace at Kauffman. Heck, it isnt like moving the runner along, doing the small things, has been commonplace. Having been away a while from watching the Royals, just reading about them instead, I assumed things had changed. What am I not seeing here?
