With 3 Yes votes, 4 No votes and 24 abstaining, the 35th NUSSU - TopicsExpress

With 3 Yes votes, 4 No votes and 24 abstaining, the 35th NUSSU Council, in a Council Meeting on 29 July 2014, rejected a motion to repeal Special Voting Rights (SVRs) that Constituent Clubs may grant to certain members during elections for incoming Management Committees (MCs). With the retention of Constituent Clubs ability to grant SVRs, certain members of some Constituent Clubs may exercise greater voting power in electing new MC members. For example, if 10 members were given 50% SVRs, their 10 votes will count towards 50% of the candidates total vote share, regardless of the number of non-SVR members. Constituent Clubs, however, have the discretion not to grant SVRs in the MC elections. For the NUSSU Exco elections, SVRs are strictly prohibited and the Union Election Committee will ensure that the NUSSU Exco elections will remain free, open, transparent and uphold the principle of one-student-one-equal-vote.
