With Moon wars starting last night a reminder of Unity by Shaykh Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen Al-Albaanee; Also with the countries who sighted the moon yesterday night then they have to fast based on the saying of the Prophet Muhammad ; Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim and other than them from the hadith of Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them, that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم said, ‘When you see the new moon then fast, and when you see it break your fast, and if it is cloudy complete the month’. Furthermore, the evidence to fast with the community is in the Hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah (raa) who related that the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said: “Fast when they fast, end the fast when they end theirs, and sacrifice the day that they sacrifice.” Related by at-Tirmidhee (2/37). Shaykh al-Albaanee authenticated it in As-Saheehah (no.224) Therefore if you are in Nigeria, Turkey, Australia, Yemen etc then Saturday is the day you fast. As for those in Saudi and other countries then its Sunday inshaaAllah. Alhamdulilah iktilaaf in this case is allowed based on the Hadeeth in Saheeh Muslim Hadeeth no.1087; Kuraib reported that Umm Fadl, daughter of Harith, sent him (Fadl, i.e. her son) to Muawiya in Syria. I (Fadl) arrived in Syria, and did the need (Haajah) for her. It was there in Syria that the month of Ramadan commenced. I saw the new moon (of Ramadan) on Friday. I then came back to Medina at the end of the month. Abdullah b. Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) asked me (about the new moon of Ramadan) and said: When did you see it? I said: We saw it on the night of Friday. He said: (Did) you see it yourself? I said: Yes, and the people also saw it and they fasted and Muawiya also fasted, whereupon he said: But we saw it on Saturday night. So we will continue to fast till we complete thirty (fasts) or we see it (the new moon of Shawwal). I said: Is the sighting of the moon by Muawiya not valid for you? He said: No; this is how the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has commanded us. abdurrahman.org/ramadhan/ramadhanreminderofunity.html
