With Thanksgiving just a few weeks away it is already time to start the CVA’s Brookwood Christmas Drive. Since our founding in 1997, the CVA has been a fixture in supporting the Brookwood Elementary School in VA. Beach, VA. The CVA has continued the relationship the USS America CV66 had with the school. From volunteers working with the children, to donations for special programs, supplies, merit scholarships and feeding less fortunate families of Brookwood at Thanksgiving. At Holidays we ask former crew members of AMERICA to join in the giving. 100% of the money raised goes to purchase food, clothing and gifts for the children of Brookwood. In past years the CVA has actually put families of Brookwood children who were homeless into motels for the holidays. This year, during our reunion in VA. Beach, we were treated to a show at Brookwood. When we entered the building the students formed side boys along the hallway leading to the auditorium, saluting us. You could see the enthusiasm in their faces, being able to show off their school to their friends from the USS America. All the children learn about the America and know who we are. This year as the years in the past we ask you to dig into your pockets and come up with a little cheer for these kids and their families.
