With a degree of frustration I make this comment: Making Australia safe should always be a priority. But we must avoid exploiting issues of safety for political gain - it potentially makes the situation worse. There is little attention to a key ingredient that can lead to violent outcomes and that is the marginalisation of people, who then withdraw from society making them potentially vulnerable to negative situations. Prevention is better than trying to find a cure after the event.
