With all due respect as regards the persons involved: in terms of the assumptions and comparisons made I cannot but criticize this whole experiment. The author is plain wrong when claiming that it was Newton who said The energy in the universe is constant, it can neither be created or destroyed“. The attribution to Newton is understood as “whig history” since I don’t know when. This is basics. Or, if you like, its the Sanchin of physics. Fact is, energy can be converted between different types of energy - such as from kinetic energy into thermal energy, or from work (phys.) to thermal energy. It can also be transported from one system into another system. However, the sum of energy inside a closed system remains unchanged. It can neither be created nor be destroyed, but only be converted from one form of energy into another. This was discovered by Mayer, Joule and Helmholtz in the 19th century. It is called the FIRST LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS (there are more to it). this is an important principle in natural sciences. And it was NOT formulated by Isaac Newton (he formulated that the sum of the potential energy and kinetic energy of an object is constant, though, which is classical mechanics). So far, so good. In the article, the author equates this physical energy as described in the “first law of thermodynamics” with something totally different: with the so-called “Ki (気)” energy. It evades me since when “Ki” has become an accepted form of energy. But it has neither anything to do with Newton nor with the “first law of thermodynamics”. It is further claimed that “through the practice of Sanchin, it [Ki (気), or Chinkuchi (チンクチ)] can be harnessed, controlled, and directed through practice”. (hmm) In the experment an Orthopedic Technician monitored blood pressure and pulse rate. (hmm) The author had a B.A. in Behavioral Science, working towards a Physics degree. (hmm). I would really like to hear his opion about this eperiment today. Equating “Ki” energy to the “first law of thermodynamics” (=the Sanchin of physics)? You cannot be serious!
