With all of the terrible news coming out of the Middle East lately, I started to wonder if we were part of the problem and not so much part of the solution. And, I think we are. I think so because we live in a time when a Palestinian cause is for Palestinians and a Syrian cause is for Syrians. Politics aside, we also live in a time when a fundraiser for Palestine is automatically a Palestinian event and a fundraiser for Syria is a Syrian event. But, what if we actually tried to make those events community events? I know the notion is considered particularly idealistic. But after 46 years of occupation, over 3 years of the worlds worse humanitarian crisis, and the happenings in Iraq, isnt it time to at least change the concept that the notion of community is idealistic and work on implementing it? I say this humbly and knowing that I can improve. But Id like to make that improvement with a community by my side. And this isnt just for Arabs, this is for a bond that comes from something deeper than our roots, a bond of love for one another. Because you dont have to look like me, be Syrian, Muslim, or anything that I am for me to care about you, you just have to be a decent human being. I love and admire you all, truly.
