With heightened insecurity, joblessness, bad roads, widening gap - TopicsExpress

With heightened insecurity, joblessness, bad roads, widening gap between the rich and the poor, amongst others, it makes sense to passionately campaign for change but whats the value of the change on offer? And is Mohammadu Buhari the change? Im afraid, not. In fact, Nigeria as a nation would be on the losing end should Buhari win. I am not going to go the route of looking at his so called record of integrity, neither am I going to comment on his childish utterances which led in part to violence after the last election. Rather, I want to look at this from the angle of managerial ability, since most of his supporters believe that hed be a better manager of our commonwealth than the incumbent. Im sure many reading this are either employers of labour, or have been in position to hire workforce before. So, lets ask: Who among us would employ a typist whos last job experience was using an IBM typewriter to work in an office equipped with computers and smartphones? Im sure mere thinking of this is insane in itself, right? How then would you justify a 70+ year old man who last held office when almost half of the current voting population were not even born, or just too young to remember, to lead a modern day Nigeria? Sagari was a Grade Two teacher in 1979. Even as backward as most part of Africa was during the time, we all know how far Sagari took us. Much less in a world where John Dramani Mahama is the president of a fast developing Ghana, just a few hundred miles to our west. What would be the place of Buharis Nigeria in todays African continent, given that African countries currently dominate the top 20 list of fastest growing economies in the world? While not disputing the fact the GEJ government is not the best we deserve, lets use an analogy to which many of us can easily relate: The current super eagles team is one of our worst in recent history, right? But do we solve the problem by recalling Jay Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Finidi George, and other members of the golden era? Thats even assuming that Buhari is anything close to the best we have. So, my point exactly? You dont jump out of a moving train just because its heading the wrong direction. Nigeria needs fixing, no doubt. But unfortunately, the technician for this crucial task is not Buhari. You dont take shakabula to a fight where your opponents are equipped with missiles. Enough said!
