With regard to the meme that the whole of Islam is hell-bent, so to speak, on destroying or converting the rest of the planet, most of those who hold this idea couldnt even tell you the difference between Sunni and Shia. Nor could they tell you which predominantly Muslim countries are controlled or directly influenced by the US government. Or what history colonial powers have in the region. They can tell you what theyve read of the Koran sometimes, but not when it was written or who it was written to or honestly say what those few bits theyve read were specifically talking about. They do know youre supposed to be very afraid and trust what the US government tells you about the other, though.
