With regards to matters of doctrinal significance, has the Bible undergone various revisions and alterations? The Bible is the most infamous and widely distributed book on Earth – it is a universal text. It has over 5,000 predictive verses and 1,500 direct predictions on over 700 separate issues. In order for the Bible to be evaluated, it is crucial to have ample evidence that it has not been modified. The Dead Sea Scrolls were the most important manuscript discovery of all time. Hidden in a cave at Qumran were hundreds of manuscripts and manuscript fragments, some of which are over 2,000 years old. They help verify that the content within the Old Testament has not been modified – at least not since it was translated into Greek some 250 years before Jesus was born. Aside from the Dead Sea Scrolls, there are thousands of ancient manuscripts, manuscript fragments and early church writings which can be cross-referenced to verify the accuracy of the modern Bible. After corroborating all the available data, the conclusion is practically unanimous – with regards to matters of doctrinal significance, the Bible has not undergone revisions and alterations. The abundance of evidence has been extensively scrutinised and competent scholars don’t generally dispute the integrity of the text (the debate is over whether it’s “divinely inspired”). The Old Testament, and the Bible as a whole, is one of the most well preserved texts of the ancient world.
