With the 50th anniversary of the premiere/debut of Gilligans - TopicsExpress

With the 50th anniversary of the premiere/debut of Gilligans Island, on CBS-TV, fast approaching on September 26th (September 26th, 1964) have you ever found yourself wondering what the theme song of the show might have sounded like if the then future members of Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones) had been commissioned to write and perform the theme song instead of The Wellingtons? Well, wonder no longer, because Im about to let you hear the answer via a very Classic 1978 parody of Zeppelins Stairway to Heaven. Written and composed by Roger Clark and Dick Bright who along with a revolving series of studio musicians comprised the San Francisco novelty band, Little Roger & The Goosebumps, recorded Stairway to Gilligans Island in March 1978 and released the vinyl 45 rpm in May 1978. Only to have Led Zeppelin promptly sue and have all copies of the 45 rpm in record stores be destroyed. Fortunately enough forward thinking people had the foresight to remember to save some 45 rpms and/or tapes of Stairway to Gilligans Island so we could all hear it in the future and not have to wonder what the theme song would sound like with Plant, Page, Bonham and Jones had been commissioned to write and perform the theme song. In 2004, Robert Plant admitted in an interview on National Public Radio that he thought Stairway to Gilligans Island was his favorite parody of Stairway to Heaven: youtube/watch?v=KTCYLbFxTpI
