With the Memorial Day holiday looming on the horizon, Hollywood has released some big guns on DVD and Blu-ray: THE MONUMENTS MEN, an affectionate throwback to old-fashioned war action comedies with director-star George Clooney leading Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Bob Balaban, Jean Dujardin, Hugh Bonneville, and Cate Blanchett to save precious art the Nazis have stolen in WWII; POMPEII, an enjoyable disaster flick starring Kit Harington (Jon Snow on Game of Thrones), Emily Browning, Carrie-Anne Moss Kiefer Sutherland, and Jared Harris (in 2D and 3D); 3 DAYS TO KILL with Kevin Costner as a dying hit man doing one last job in this fun actioner with Hailee Steinfeld, Amber Heard and Connie Nielsen; the hit black remake of ABOUT LAST NIGHT [2014] with Kevin Hart, Michael Ealy, Regina Hall, and Joy Bryant; NO GOD, NO MASTER, a true period thriller about terrorism in the early 20th century with David Strathairn; the French gay-themed murder thriller STRANGER BY THE LAKE; the teen femme horror satire VAMPIRE ACADEMY; RAZE, a brutally enjoyable 70s style action-exploitation flick starring Zoe Bell, Rachel Nichols, and Sherilyn Fenn as women who have to fight to the death to escape nasty kidnappers; the beautiful Japanese romance LIKE SOMEONE IN LOVE; popular British TV shows CALL THE MIDWIFE: SEASON 3 and WAKING THE DEAD: SEASON 9 [THE FINAL SEASON]; the period romance IN SECRET starring Elizabeth Olsen, Jessica Lange, Oscar Isaacs, and Tom Felton; and we finally have the terrific HBO series GAME OF THRONES: SEASONS 1 and 2 on Blu-ray, and if you have already seen these already on DVD, consider watching them again because they look much more spectacular on Blu-ray!
