With the help of Allaah, He helps whom He will and He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful…!Insha’Allah it remain some days to end this blessed month of Ramadan then we should have it in mind that we are going to give Zakaatul- fitr to those that are concern...!,for Zakaatul-fitr is obligatory upon every muslim who has the food or provision to sustain himself and those whom he is obligated to support, provided that this exceeds his basic needs a family man is obligated to give Zakaatul-fitr for his wife and minor children who have no money of their own, in the case of one who has independent children, one is not obligated for their Zakaatul –fitr, There are different of opinion among the scholars in what to give zakaatul fitr, first opinion says give Zakaatul fitr from food or to pay it from money, Second opinion says don’t pay Zakaatu-fitr from money and don’t give it from food except five types of food only that is wheat, dates, barley, cottage cheese and Third opinion says give Zakaatul fitr from every food which the people are fed from and not from that which the people are not fed from, so give Zakaatul fitr from wheat, dates, rice, pearl millets, corn and whatever is similar to that and masha’Allah I accepted the third opinion base on the statement of Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudree that said what we used to distribute it (Zakaat ul fitr) in the time of Rasulullah (saw) as one saa’ of food and our food was dates and barley and raisins and cottage cheese (Al-Bukhari ) Allaah knows best….! zakaatul fitr should be given on one or two days before the salatu Eid,for it been reported that Rasulullah (saw) commanded his companions to give Zakaatul fitr before going out to perform the salatu Eid (Al-Bukhari) for imam Bukhari said “Zakaatul fitr should be given in one saa’ equal to four mudd and one mudd is equal to the amount held by cupping the two hands together and Zakaatul fitr,it’s a measure by volume not weight” (Al-Bukhari 2: 579 ) for in some countries a saa’ for zakaatul fitr estimated to be equal to anything from 2.176 to 2.25 kilograms or just under 5lbs even some years ago when i was in Indonesia, Muslim in Indonesia measure their Zakaatul fitr by 2.25 kilograms but then there is some minimal difference in determining the weight based upon the conversion of quantities of varying items into a unified measure that is one of the reason imaam Bukhari stated that “Zakaatul fitr is a measure by volume not weight” then it better that person goes for thing that is clear than things that are doubtful, Allaah knows best…………..! May Allah taala accept our zakaatul fitr in this blessed month of Ramadan (Ameen)
