With the horrendous floods in Metro, I propose the ff mitigating measures (maibsan man lang ang pinsala at pagtatagal ng baha): 1. Stop reclamation projects. There should be a stop to various "reclamation" projects along Roxas and the Cavite shoreline. Hindi naman lupa yan dati, dagat talaga yan. We are actually running against the natural course of things. Tatabunan natin ang dagat eh di babalik sa atin ang tubig na galing sa ating mga ilog? 2. Adopt advance technologies on flood control. Flood control infrastructure should be prioritized. Stop construction of narrow/shallow sub-standard canals but an honest-to-goodness drainage and sewerage system. 3. Clean the [clogged] canals way before the rainy season. Or regular dredging of esteros, river tributaries be done. Remove water lilies, floating garbage and other elements. Implement garbage segregation. Andami pa ring plastic na lumulutang-lutang! 4. No more pdaf for soft and hard pet projects like maliliit na drainage, sheds courts, multipurpose halls - na sinasarhan ng mga maliittang pork barrel projects na ito ang dati nang makipot na drainage system at mga ilog or creeks. 5. Involve the communities. All these flood control infra projects could be monitored by the people or at their level, gawing mass campaigns sa bawat barangay ang paglilinis ng mga daluyan ng tubig, wastong pagtatapon ng basura at iba pa.
