With the reintroduction of scriptio continua in our modern day writing in things like hashtags, webpages, etc, I coin garden path strings to be hashtags and the like where you start to read and parse the letters one way, but then get stuck and have to go back and reparse them another way. e.g. #therealsonishere First attempt at parsing: there - also - nishere??? Hit error Going back to reparse it: the - real - son - is - here There already exist things called garden path sentences, but these lead you up the garden path in terms of their *syntax*, such as the old man the boat. Garden path *strings* lead you up the garden path on the level of individual letters forming words.
