With the restoration of our stunning stained glass windows ongoing in the Hall, this weeks fact Friday could only be about one thing... The stained glass portraits were added to the Saloon in 1916 and made by Glasgow glass stainers and decorators, Guthrie and Wells and show King James VI (the monarch at the time of the institution of the House), Deacon Convener William Beattie (who, although elected in 1913 is shown dressed as a Burgess of 1605) and finally Mary, Queen of Scots. The Glasgow Art Club has a portrait in the bar of William Beattie in contemporary dress at the turn of the twentieth century.
