With the season hanging in the balance, 18 intrepid skippers - TopicsExpress

With the season hanging in the balance, 18 intrepid skippers braved the cold temps and high winds in what turned out to be a great final race to the incredible inaugural Texas Dragon Force Race Series. Chuck LeMahieu proved the theory that even mid fleet hackers can find lightning in a bottle with the easy to sail Dragon Force , and debuting his new Dragon Force Atomik Annie , cruised to a surprising victory in the season finale! Chris Macaluso, Brig North, Eric Rosenbaum and Chuck LeMahieu were contending for the overall series lead separated by less than 3 points, heading into todays action, but in the end when the spray settled off of the waves. Chris Macaluso captured the overall lead and is now crowned the Inaugural Champion of the Texas Dragon Force Classic. Congrats Chris! Brig North and Chuck LeMahieu ended the series tied for second, but Brig won on tie breakers. A big thanks goes out to the TX DF sponsors Atomik RC, Brighton Boat Works, & FAST Sails , who donated $800 in retail value of prizes for todays championship! Phil Runquist won the TX DF Series Sportsmanship Award and Fred Sheldon won the TX DF Series Most Improved Skipper Award! The series suffered its first and only manufacturer related breakdown today when Jerry Tippett burned out his sail winch during Race 5 sailing his A rig in B rig wind. For those keeping score at home we raced approx 500 hours total in the series, with only ONE manufacturer related failure !!! Most impressive! Even more impressive is the streak we have had in the series is that in all 5 of the series races we sailed either in Houston , or Dallas we had brand new skippers join the fleet and ended up with 31 skippers racing in the 5 race series. When you consider that in Nov 2013 no one in either club owned one of these boats that is really astounding! BY mutual acclimation, this is some of the most competitive racing, and fun we have ever had in ANY class of boat weve sailed in. We would all agree that we got our moneys worth and a whole lot more out of the Fantastic Dragon Force!! In 2015, we decided that we had so much fun that we decided to double down on the number of races and also have added Series races in Austin to the circuit as well!
