With the untimely passing of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman (a look - TopicsExpress

With the untimely passing of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman (a look back segment will be coming soon), many have been wondering what is to become of his role in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2. Well, Lionsgate has come up with a solution. Since Hoffman already filmed a number of his scenes, they plan to digitally add him in for the rest of them. This isnt the first time that a studio has attempted to digitally add or use camera trickery to put a late actor into scenes in order to finish the film. The producers of 1978s The Game of Death actually had the audacity to show the late Bruce Lees actual funeral scene (complete with corpse!) in an attempt to add a plot about his character faking his death. The rest of the film consisted of actors attempting to hide their faces whilst pretending to be Lee. A similar situation happened previously when The Three Stooges Shemp Howard died and the studio demanded they continue shooting with three actors. Thus, the infamous shemp was born. An actor who made to look like Shemp was used but his face was kept hidden and/or his back to the camera. Blake Edwards attempted to squeeze life out of a late actor when he decided to make Trail of the Pink Panther in 1982 by including stock footage and deleted scenes from The Pink Panther Strikes Again so that Peter Sellers could be in one more Pink Panther film. A double was used (with his face hidden, presumably Clouseau in disguise) for the new footage. One of the most infamous cases such as this, and one of the first to digitally add a late actor was Wagons East, a Western comedy starring the late, great John Candy. Candy also died while in the middle of shooting so the filmmakers, rather than shut down production, digitally added him in certain scenes (which are far too obvious) and used a double for others. Do you think the studio deciding to digitally add Philip Seymour Hoffman into the final Hunger Games installments is a good idea or could put a damper on the film?
