With this recording from 1966, we have audio proof positive that the liturgical innovation of the mass was well underway years prior to the introduction of the Novus Ordo Missal in 1970. The Novus Ordo did not CAUSE liturgical chaos in the Church. What it did was ABSORB it. Liturgical innovations were already well entrenched prior to 1970, and the Vetus Ordo (Extraordinary Form) was taking the hit. The Novus Ordo redirected these innovations away from the Vetus Ordo and absorbed them into itself.
