With three children in school and involved in assorted activities, - TopicsExpress

With three children in school and involved in assorted activities, we did spend our fair share of time in the car. We worked out a system for preferential seating: Jackson was first born so he got the odd numbered days, and since Maureen was second, she got the even numbered days. Jayla was just out of luck until she no longer required a car seat. However, Maureen spent more time in the car with me and would move up front if her brother wasnt there. She would (sometimes remember to request to) change the radio station and let me know just how hot the car was. I recall her leaning the seat back to sleep the week before she went to the hospital; she was just so tired. I also recall, that same week, she had gone with me to Wal-Mart. The small car in front of us stalled traffic in the parking lot so that two cars couldnt back out. I felt bad because I knew they wanted to back out, but my car was blocking them since I was behind the small car. As she and I drove home, the weather was nice enough that we had the windows down. One of the SUVs from the parking lot pulled up, and the old man yelled an expletive right into the window. I saw his expression change when he realized that he just cussed in the face of a nine-year old girl. It took us both a few seconds to figure out what had just happened. I was steaming! Even though he rolled up his window, I sped up to get next to him. I wanted to give him a guilt trip for his immature behavior in front of my daughter. I gave him a look, but luckily my need to turn into our neighborhood saved him from my wrath. I told her how stupid he must feel for having done that to her. My daughters response? Maureen just calmly told me to not worry about him. He obviously had other problems and to not let it ruin my day. I hate to admit that I still feel disgust for that man for doing that to her when she had less than a month of life. However, I am proud that she showed such maturity. Now, when I drive, I stare at that empty seat. I miss my co-pilot in so many ways.
