With todays announcement I felt compelled to share a few images of Cuba, circa 2011. It was literally a land frozen in time. Posters, billboards, magazines stood exactly as they had in the 1950s. The people made due with what they had. Cigar makers showed us how they rolled cigars, something they had done many thousands of times in their lives, by hand. As it should be. Men gathered and played dominoes accompanied with a cigar and a row of spectators. People played baseball, often with only one ball for the team, and players without shoes. The lined up to enjoy ice cream at all hours of the day and evening. And the cars, I fell in love with the cars. They were still running, more or less, with whatever parts they could find. We were welcomed warmly, they were lovely people. We were there before many could travel there. It will change, hopefully for the better for them.
