With tomorrow being Memorial day we have a tradition of looking - TopicsExpress

With tomorrow being Memorial day we have a tradition of looking back and remembering our blessings! We have so much to be grateful for over the last year! I wonder how many of us there are that have multiple conditions. I have been diagnosed with RA, Gout, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, COPD, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Depression, Emphysema, Migraines, Diabetes, PAD, DVT and those are just my chronic conditions lol so how do you ever figure out where one stops and the other begins? The doctors had me on 36 different medications + 3 pain pills (which included morphine) the result of which was not good - I was in a wheelchair on oxygen and not being managed at all! Now I am off of all of my medications WITH my doctors blessing and feeling better than I have in Years!!! There is so many things we can do for ourselves but I was not doing them because I felt helpless, hopeless and very much like I was a victim. I could not work and I felt doomed. You know when you get to the point of being sick and tired of being sick and tired you start looking for answers outside of your comfort zone! I am happy I did because as my doctor said, he could only treat my symptoms. Those treatments all had side effects and sometimes those side effect had to be treated with new treatments. However by learning about things I COULD DO and doing them and keep working on improving each day - WOW what an amazing difference I have had in my life and in my husbands life. I am out of the wheelchair and stronger than I have been in over 25 years. I wake up each day with a feeling of excitement and gratitude! I still have some pain, but it is about a 1 or 2 seldom above a 3 where before I was at a 9 most days. There are so many little things we CAN DO each day, but most of us (like I was) do not know what or how or feel like I did - that we are victims and we can not do anything ourselves to make a difference. The first step as my doctor told me starts with ME being in the drivers seat of MY own health! Sorry about the long post, but really felt like some of you needed to hear this. I know my worst flare ups happen around holidays and special events. I urge you to do all you can do to get in the drivers seat of your life and health. If you want to know what I did feel free to send me a pm and I will share my journey with you. I wish you all success and a happy flareup free Memorial day weekend!
