Within an hour of yet another near-miss, Wales were trying to move on. The talk at the Millennium Stadium was of looking forward to another European campaign and an opportunity to make history. But this result will linger in the minds of the Welsh, and turning the focus to further glory in the Six Nations cannot disguise the unpalatable fact that Wales keep falling short in their bid to gatecrash the elite. Post-match debate about marginal refereeing decisions in this match was irrelevant; the home side were beaten by the better team and, deep down, they knew it.
