Wittingly and unwittingly, we model ourselves after those we seek - TopicsExpress

Wittingly and unwittingly, we model ourselves after those we seek to emulate and use genres to classify behaviors. We call these subgroups, cliques, and cultures. Various codependent factors affect this classification of the self and others: our perceived class, our peer groups, and the media we communicate with determine how we exercise our free will in our professional and private lives. Take a few seconds every day to look outside and around, wherever one may be, and ask: what of this have I created, what of this creates me, what of this do I consume, and what of this consumes me? We are often quantified and qualified by inside and outside influences, by our perceived friends and enemies, by personal or higher authority. It’s increasingly difficult to take control of our lives when we disregard the reality of our personal sovereignty, and increasingly easier to take control of another’s when we disregard theirs. Ideally, we should live in a style and manner such that our actions and thoughts would benefit all, but invariably we find a paradox. For one to be happy and occupied, of benefit to the self and others, ideals must be compromised: the prison bars must bend, a comfort zone left.
