Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.” Colossians 3:19 “Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.” 1 Peter 3:7 “The Lord tests the righteous, But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.” Psalm 11:5 Homes are filled with violence. Homes are filled with terror and fear. Children are growing up scared and as victims. Husband and wives, girlfriends and boyfriends are shouting at each other and are hitting one another. The home should be a place of love, peace and when disagreements occur, it should be one of discussion and negotiation. It is an awful thing to consider the hurt and the tragedy that is taking place inside of the home. Instead of respect and honor there is frightening abuse and horrible anger. The home has become a place to vent and to take out on the ones we love our disappointments with the lives we lead. Something needs to change so that the home becomes a place of refuge and hope. How do we help those that are in this cycle of anguish? So many times, the ones who are suffering from this situation will not speak of it and hide it from shame, from fear and from not knowing how to change it. The problem is that not all men and women who scream and hit are bad people. A child that grows up in a household of violence does not know how to deal with problems any other way than to fight. That is why it is a cycle. There is a better way to deal with the hurts of this world and that is by submitting to Jesus Christ. Yet, many who are not Christians do not want to hear it and those Christians that have angry violent households are without the love of God inside of themselves. We can be better Christians while we are at our jobs and out in public. We can pay attention to those who seem to need the love of Christ. We can be more evangelistic in our lives and be willing to reach out more often. We can be compassionate and open so that if the opportunity arises we can be there to offer to others hope. We need to make sure that we are not closed off to our fellow brothers and sisters because you never know when God will open that door to them through you. Be sure that although this problem may not be your problem, it is our nation’s problem as is every problem that has this nation rebelling as a people against God. Show the love that is inside of you to others. As God loves us, we need to love one another with compassion. “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity; but rejoices in the truth; bears all things. Believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Love That Cross, Pastor John Collins
