Woke up to hear that fracking companies have now been given the right to drill on Areas of outstanding natural beauty. However the Environment agency says that this is only going to be under exceptional circumstances...this is very reassuring because Im sure the over-riding concerns will be for public/environment health and wellbeing, it wont be just because theyve exhausted all the areas that dont have so many rich people and are deemed not quite as naturally beautiful, and there will be no backhanders or government/ commercial pressure involved. After all, were not being used as guinea pigs in this area just because were tucked away with a relatively low population etc, were pioneers! And the fact that those areas of outstanding natural beauty are a massive tourist attraction and the tourist industry is one of our biggest doesnt matter at all. There could be guided tours around the fracking sites (a frack crawl!), a nice visitors centre where you could perhaps sample a fine variety of waters flavoured with chemicals such as benzene and arsenic, sniff a bit of methane...maybe there could even be a fracking theme park where you experience an exciting earthquake simulation, a trip up the rig to get a really good view of the surrounding industrial wasteland, and the finale could be a spectacular simulation of the underground gas storage caverns in our area exploding after severe destabilization of the ground rock. Who needs all that beauty anyway, people need to get with the times. Come to Frackworld! A great day out for all the family! £20 per person but children go free!
