Women’s Group Started Our women’s group started last Thursday. This is a real milestone for us. We have had a weekly support group that caters mainly for men going for a while now. It is great that we now have the same service available to women. A number of women attended our first support group, including a local indigenous elder. Hopefully we will give them the courage and support to face their life circumstances and deal with it well and with conviction. We offer them the opportunity to meet local women who have, or are, experiencing similar life events as they are. They will be able to share their problems and solutions with each other. It also gives them the opportunity to have a social outing knowing they will not be judged, and others will understand their situation. As there are a smaller number of people who attend our support groups (as opposed to our large giveaways), we are able to customise the support we give them. At our big weekly giveaways we can put out a wide range of items such as clothes, blankets, mobile phones etc. Generally there is such a rush that we don’t get to talk to all the people who take what we offer. At our support groups we do speak to everyone individually, and they can and do, ask for specific items that we endeavour to provide to them. Thank you Vera and Jude for taking on the challenge of setting up and running this group.
