Wonderful Thoroughbred looking for a good home! Got your attention didnt I? No, no way! Never! Not this guy! Heck, Packer is on the screensaver of my iPhone, iPad, iMac and his picture is on every wall in the house. A photo of him kicking up his heels in the snow is on the desk where Im writing this! Brenda has given up be jealous about my relationship with him. So many times we read or hear people say, I have a horse I want but need to place my other horse first. He is a good horse but .... Did you ever think that your husband, wife, girlfriend or boyfriend may want to place you? It might go something like this, Hes a good guy and fun to be with. Hes kind, never yells, good with the kids and pets. He just needs someone to bring out the best in him! He needs to be moved out of the house and taken away from the SEC channel. Hmmmmm? As an aside, is that a great channel or what? Did you see the Auburn game this past weekend? Now, back to the horse. I get it, Ive been in the same position. It was bringing in a horse that I thought I could manage and retrain or grew tired of a horse or a breed that just didnt fit my lifestyle. Maybe it was a horse that scared me or just became like an old nag. The horse is just missing something and I cant figure it out. The problem? Its me, not the horse! Packer, the horse in the picture, taught me more about myself than any person or human interaction, therapy or otherwise. He and I have both been paralyzed with fear and frustration, usually at the same time! Today, hes the first horse I want to grab, saddle up and take off with. By the way, the trailer loading process with him is story in itself! My suggestion is if you have a horse that just isnt working for you ask yourself whats different now than when you first got him? And it doesnt start with the horse. Whats different about you? Ask your spouse and best friends. Be honest and ready to hear all of the answers. You may find that the work begins inside. I have used a trainer for the past two years. I see him every week for 3 hours. Its a big commitment but the dividends have far exceeded the money and time invested. When I find myself avoiding one of the horses for one reason or another its because there is something in me that needs to be changed. I use my coach to get excited about that horse again. I usually then feel badly that I blamed the horse for my shortcomings. Proverbs 15:22 Plans fail for lack of wise counsel, but with many advisors they succeed. I consider King Solomon to be a good counselor and many times he discusses wisdom. He says, in essence, that we need to use others to achieve our greatest service to God. I know, got you again by bringing in the Bible into the story and not a recent self help book. Just take a little time to think about it. Before you cast aside your mate, your hyper Labradoodle, your frustrating feline or your terrifying Thoroughbred ..... It starts with you! God bless and remember; NOTHING BEATS A THOROUGHBRED!
