Wonderful story by Sudha Om Dhingra EXIT SHORT STORY BY SUDHA OM DHINGRA TRANSLATED BY DR. RAM SHARMA `` What`s the reason? Why the Mehta couple is not seen in parties now a days.`` `` Why do you want to know about them ? You do not like them.All people realize that you were not able to tolerate them in the parties .`` `` What are you saying ?`` `` You are presenting it in wrong manner.`` ` Sampada,`When , i have not reacted then how people came to know about it.`` This is the product of your own mind.`` `` Sudhansu , your feelings start changing with the entry of Mehta family in the party and till when they remain in the party you ignore them completely.You form your company with Guptaji, Anand Seth, Suhas Bhai and remain sitting in one corner and stand up just to return to home.`` `` Sampada , This does not mean that i do not tolerate them or i do not like them.`` `` Then what has happened.`` ` What nonsense are you talking , you also know how mean is Mehta family , unnaturalness reflects in every part and how boastly they talk .`` Suddenly there was voice from the nagivator of the car , ` Take left`. Sudhanshu turned the steering wheel to the left side.-- `` There is nothing like dislike from Ajay Mehta , but Sampu the main thing is his boasting. He boasts in the whole party and alas the people hear him.`` `` The people can not close their ears , they have their likings , their thoughts and their views . Why do you not understand this ? Sudhanshu , all do not have the same liking.`` `` When i say that all have the same liking but i do not go to the party to hear useless conversation . Even if it is not intellectual but it should be important talk. There is no sense and originality weeps by standing distant far , without boasting Ajay do not start his talk.` ` Is it not true that Mehta family does not possess a big house ? Is it false that they have BMW , Mercidies and Lexies cars . Children are getting education from private schools . They go to wealthy places for holidays four times in one year.Mrs Sundari Mehta is always laden with ornaments and clothes . Is it boasting to do new parties daily.` The car was running with high speed on 540 highway. Sudhanshu changed the right lane for the car. On the road the cars were running eighty miles in four lanes. On the right lane Sudhanshu fixed 65 miles in cruze control and started driving . The left lane is for slow speed and for the exiters when the decided place comes. ` Well, in America who do not have this --while arriving in the party they started saying that they purchased ten thousand shares of Sisco in fifteen thousand dollars and sold those out in sixteen thousands after one hour and earned ten thousand dollars in sixty minutes .`` ` His business.` ` And others are without any business . What do you talk -how many people boast in parties.` ` The person who will earn, will talk` ` All others are useless` ` When i said all are useless`. ` How silent Dr. Vaani remains in parties , in temples in public places . He talks laughingly and his presence is full of pleasure.Has he talked about his research . Can anyone tell that he is the same person to invent the medicine of breast cancer ` Taxol.`How humble he is ! ` All can not be Dr. Vaani.` ` How much competition is here , you know . I go to releive my tension in the parties and for pleasure and merriment. We can talk about family and we are able to meet all with love otherwise we are not able to have glimpse of each other.` ` When i say that we go for merriment --it is our helplessness to attend parties . We have such a distance that we are not able to embrace each other even if we desire -. All these parties are excuses to meet each other. ` Exactly , the same thing i was telling you but you always support Mehta blindly.` ` Sudhanshu --you --me ? Sampada could not complete her talk. All of a sudden from the near by lane one car came infront of BMW of Sudhansu. He has to exit the highway . He put the speed of the car in normal from cruze control .The car slowed down. After taking the exit of the first car , Sudhanshu came in his speed again but he did not put the speed of the car in cruze control . Sudhanshu again started talking . ` While coming in the party Ajay takes the glass of the wine and takes two three pegs and gets started --invest money in IBM .You can purchase Dell . Do not invest any money in any company of medicine . FDA has finished all . All the way , i have invested twenty thousands dollars in Glaxo today.` ` Sampada did not speak anything Sudhanshu kept on speaking in anger ,` He earns money from the shares of the companies of medicines and refuses others ` He is experienced . He is doing the same thing from last ten years .Thats why he refuses and thats why he left the job.` ` He did not left the job but he was terminated from the job . He used to invest his time in share even there.It is not like India here that you got whole life- security even after getting the job.` ` But Sundari was telling that Mehtaji lost his job due to the cut on the budget of the state.` From the fourth lane a youngman came infront of Sundhanshu by overtaking all the cars with high speed. He has to exit highway on the next turn. In this momentary incident Sampada stretched her hands towards the dashboard of the car and Sudhanshu spoke while managing his car, `` He will die and at the same time kill others too.` The car was managed in seconds -- there was silence for a moment. ` Sampada when there is cut then lazy and useless people are turned out , you are living in this country from many years inspite of that you beleive on all.` ` Sundari thinks it a blessing but she is happy. One earns less in government jobs in comparison to private companies and there is no guarantee in it.` ` I got government job with indian thinking but this indian thinking did not last long towards work and time .` ` Mrs Mehta says among women --` We are not able to do anything in that --The Almighty do the right thing . They earn ten thousand dollars to twenty thousand dollars in one day.` ` Is it not a boasting . That day Mehta was saying the same thing . The doctors earn less in America and started saying by looking at me but they can not earn fifty thousand dollars in a day . I have come today in the party after earning the same amount. What is it ? Is it not boasting then what is it ? Sampada who will compete with Doctor Mehta ? ` You were hurted when he said this .` ` Why i shall feel hurted ? He was under the effect of wine , he even did not know what he was saying ` Sampada looked at the watch --they have time to reach break forest.She tuned 88 fm . It was the programme of Music market. There was the fierce talk between host Afroz and John Caudwell. ` How well John speaks in Hindi even if he is American.` ` Yes, your Mehta does not shy even hearing this . He speaks Punjabi with english accent . ` Till when Mehta started belonging to me ? ` ` You always takes his favour.` ` Whatever you say , he has money . You know how many sets of ornaments Mrs Mehta has of diamond , pearl and jewels.` ` You have jealousy` ` Yes , i have jealousy . Am i able to live like Mrs Mehta being the wife of a surgeon .` ` Mrs Mehta lives for herself but you lives for others before yourselves.` ` Whats the wrong in living for self`. ` You can live for self. Who has stopped you --. Do not donate two thousand and purchase pearls and diamonds for yourself. Sampada kept quiet . The song of Rahet Fateh Ali Khan was being played upon the radio. ` Awaking by seeing you --and sleeping by seeing you.` Both kept quiet by hearing the song Sudhanshu again spoke ` How long is the way from Carry to Break forest while driving.The person gets tired while driving . Say to your friend Usha Kumar to take house in Carry . She organises party every month here.` ` Dr. Dhruv Kumar is your friend . Why do you not say to him ?` ` All of a sudden the phone rang . There is facility in BMW that the phone starts ringing on the speaker of the car and you have to justpush the button of the talk . The voice was of Bindu Singh. ` Sampada , today`s party has been cancelled . Ajay Mehta is in hospital . He had stroke with heart attack . Dr Dhruv Kumar went to the hospital and Usha has cancelled the party. She is doing some phone calls and some calls i am doing. Many people are coming in the party. ` But what has happened ---` Sampada and Sudhanshu both spoke `. ` Here was low inflation rate in shares and in economy. Sampada, the thing we came to know now that the Mehta family was in debt in every dip. ` ` What are you saying , Bindu.` ` Yes -- house, cars , credit cards and ornaments were as security in the bank upon them there was a huge debt upon them. Even on the accumulated money of the home there was debt and the whole money was invested in share market . The share market fell daily and Ajay does not have any money to pay the instalments of the debt. When he was not able to pay the debt the bank took his cars.` ` And we are not able to know about this.` ` So what -- All knew about this . The house came upon for closer last days and now it is being auctioned.All ornaments have been sold . In other words he came on roads. Ajay Mehta could not bear this . You took your car back from next exit. He is admitted in Rex hospital.` With this the connection with Bindu was cut. Sudhanshu took his car towards next exit.
