Wonderfully uplifting Shabbos davenen at Torah Chayim, full of great liturgy and niggunim of the Gerer Chasidim and their illustrious meshorer (composer), Yankel Talmud. Grateful for the opportunity to over-expound on the origins of Chasidism, with apologies to the narcoleptic handful. We know who you are! Hope the celebrated Kaplan Musaf made up for it. Special welcome to our new friends, newlyweds Josie and Patrick Flanagan. They obviously fit right in, and we look forward to worshiping with them again and again. And, mazal tov to Juan and family on his/their simcha! Lets make a special effort to attend services next Shabbat, Shabbat Thanksgiving. A lot of our regulars will be away. You know already how much I love cantorial music. Weve shared pretty light stuff so far. This time, I am sharing some pretty serious operatic stuff for folks who want a taste of high-octane cantorial or operatic music. It was composed and recorded about 80 years ago by my most favorite cantor, Mordecai Hershman, during the Golden Age of the Cantor. You might recognize the words from the prayer we chant as we remove the Torah from the Holy Ark. Thats where the resemblance ends. And no, I promise not to try to replicate it at services, only in the shower. Shavua tov! A gutteh voch! A good week to all who are near and far!
