WorkSource Snohomish County Saturday Job Seeker (A series of Saturday tips and information that suggests better/quicker ways to obtain the employment you are seeking) We believe there is a “most effective” job seeking process. A logical approach to job seeking that covers each element of an effective process pays off earliest. It doesn’t matter what level of employment you seek, the logical process applies. Each Saturday we will share more about this logical process in detail. Next Saturday: Soft Skills Considerations: 0. Most employers are seeking employees with people or soft skills and not every candidate has successfully mastered soft skills which leads as much to not being selected as a lack of hard skills sometimes. Some employers may even prefer to teach hard skills to an employee that already has the soft skills. 1. Whether the economy is hot, cold or in between; employers express concerns over finding skilled workers (workers that successfully match their hard skills to the advertised job). Many workers may possess the skills an employer needs but they may not have gained the skill in the context of the advertised job. Knowing how to translate skills from other occupations and activities is crucial in transferring them to a different but related occupation. A candidate that has both Soft Skills and Hard Skills is very marketable. 2. Nearly every employer, particularly if they don’t know you, will require a resume in the introductory process. Being effective at marketing the skills and abilities an employer needs can be the difference between getting and not getting an interview. 3. Expect that employers are going to conduct an interview of leading candidates. This is where only one of the qualified candidates succeeds in finally getting hired. Job seekers that are more effective at interviewing may have a better chance of applying their hard and soft skills in the near future with the employers that invite them to the interview.
