Working furiously on this Saturday night to get all of my long - TopicsExpress

Working furiously on this Saturday night to get all of my long term projects a little more complete. Thats because I want nothing to do at 6:30 pm tomorrow night. Game 3 for the Angels and Royals in Kansas City is Sunday. Kansas City is going for the close out win to advance to the American League Championship Series. Those of us who are Royals fans are riding out a truly, unforgettable week. I will never forget this unexpected week. A life experience that isnt over just yet. Tuesday: The Wild Card comeback win. A miraculous night for our son and me. Watching Kansas City erase a 7-3 hole, an 8-7 deficit in the 12th to win 9-8. After sprinting out of the stadium, we got back to Cedar Rapids at 5:15 in the morning. He had school. I had work. Yeah... I was dragging a little bit. Thursday: I got home at about 11 pm as our son was just drifting off to sleep. He told me to wake him up in Kansas City won or lost. The Royals Mike Moustakas hits a solo home run in the 11th inning, probably about 11:50. I go into his room, lightly shaking and startling him. He doesnt stir. Finally, when Kansas City wins 3-2, I do wake him up. He nods. Seven hours later, he asks me who won. I tell him. Hes unspeakably thrilled. Friday: I got home at midnight after a long and cold evening in the winds of Sumner. Fortunate to watch a little of the game at the Sumner-Fredericksburg cafeteria as we put together a story, outside of the harsh gales of October. Through the night, our son is texting me here and there, with updates on the game. I roll in at midnight, finally, ready for the top of the 11th. Eric Hosmers home run occurred five seconds after I sat down with warmed-up leftovers. The Royals won 4-1. Now our entire house is anticipating Sunday. I hope they come out in those powder blue Sunday tops, with their ace pitcher and an entire city screaming for four hours. Tuesdays game helped rekindle so many memories but also creating new ones. For 25+ years, the Royals were dreadfully bad that they lost an entire generation of future fans. This week has mended a good chunk of this, with a team that seems to really like each other, even if they cant hit doubles in the gap all the time. Go Royals. See you Sunday night.
