Working in a creative musical environment on a daily basis, you - TopicsExpress

Working in a creative musical environment on a daily basis, you are exposed to well dressed poised folks who are broken. The race to the top,the inability to acknowlege others with equal or equivalent talent, the struggle to accept rejection, the humilty to be happy for someone elses successs is in small commodities. So many are the walking dead whose accomplishments in life are celebrated exclusively from the side lines always gazing over the shoulder of some major White artist they reference as they exhalt themselves to some status that makes them a legend in their own mind. Get over it !!!! The Emporor has no clothes on! I do not think it is a universal flaw of men and women who have been blessed with musical talent to engage in some pecking order like Hens on a chicken farm, foolishly believing you have a certain level of musical mastery, because you can like a moking bird solfege a melody at the drop of a dime. You forget that scientist can train monkeys to do the same thing. That does not make you the best . It is just an indicator that you are a better candidate for being recruited to some cult. What you access as a level of excellence breeds a false notion that if the desciples under your direction embrace the same mastery, they may one day be destined to a leval of fame that you in your dillusion believe you have obtained. And while one wants to inspire the young to strive for the stars, we want to break the cycle of reproducing artist who do not have the courage to recognize that a constant gaze at the past, rather than continuing to cultivate a healthy future is deadly to a career. No one really remembers or cares in the long run about the litany of musicians that attached you to their ass as they mugged their way to the top. You did it great... now what are you doing? Everyone is as good as their last gig. Cultural expression and music in particular is more than perfect notes. It is life. It is recognizing that tone, rough or smooth, words, rhythm, soul, spirit-- all elements equally if not more important in transforming an audience. We study and master our craft not to put others down but to elevate humanity and use musical expression as a vehicle to aid humanity in seeing God and what is possible in this life. We are social engineers using music as our vehicle, balm, wand we conduct with so our listeners find a seed of happiness. If you are using this gift in any other way--you are a parasite and you allowing your failed and broken dreams, career crashes and poor life decisions pollute the minds and spirit of young vulnerable artist. Meritocracy and honoring a eurocentric value system that by its very origins excludes and demeans the core aesthetic values of the majority of people living on the planet is a crime to our ancestors. Spending so much time in an environment where people are using music as a vehicle to self discovery, it is painful to observe those so damaged cling to subjective and arbitrary musical systems that codify creativity and reinforce a system that excludes African genius. Do what you do best and do it without attempting to rain on others parade because sun light is scarce in your life.
