Working on finding out information about the illegal pet trade. What is apparent is that Red Pandas are not only being targeted for the illegal pet trade but also for illegal zoos and as photo props. We dont know at this point where the pandas are coming from or how many are being kept in Thailand as pets or photo props, but I am working to find out more. It is in fact legal to have a pet red panda in Thailand- however it is illegal under the CITES convention- of which Thailand is a signatory- to transfer any red panda or their body parts without proper permits, which are not freely given and defiantly would not be given to fuel the pet trade. I am currently reviewing all relevant literature and legislation. Lets hope it does some good. At this point we are asking for 3 things from our supporters. 1) patience while we try and understand this issue 2) if you are in Thailand, Myanmar or Indonesia keep an eye and ear out for anything suspicious and report to us (developing a deco toon on our website to help make this easier) 3) if you are capable donate to help fund our research trips in the Asian region- or volunteer your time Thank you for all your support and lets hope we can tackle this issue before it is too late.
