Workout to raise funds for soldiers: PHYSICALLY wounded and psychologically affected soldiers are being supported by a fundraiser on Saturday, March 15, held by CrossFit Access Malaga in partnership with UniQfit. The fundraiser has been designed to raise awareness and support for Australian soldiers and their families with all money raised going towards Soldier On. Owner Craig Campbell said the fundraiser would include some of Western Australia’s top athletes, including boxer Danny Green, and will involve completing a Special Air Service Hero Workout of the Day (WOD) led by Victoria Cross recipient and Soldier On patron-in-chief Mark Donaldson. “CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide,” he said. It is dedicated to honouring fallen/wounded soldiers by creating Hero WODs that are named after a fallen soldier and push people to their limits to show how brave and strong these soldiers were. “There are numerous Hero WODs which are designed to be gruelling and extremely hard even for the top athletes,” Mr Campbell said. “An example of a Hero WOD is the ‘Wood’ designed after fallen Australian Army Sergeant Brett Wood of Fern Tree Gully, Victoria who died on May 2011 at 32 years old.” The 29-year-old Ballajura resident said it would be a family-friendly day with CrossFit workouts offered to the public for a donation, army tanks and UniQfit equipment on display as well as the chance to get autographs from Mr Donaldson and WA sportspeople. dlvr.it/56YS9k #NEWSANDVIEWSLocalNews (inMyCommunity) #perth #perthnews
