Workshop Oasis Game St. Marten We are hosting a workshop on Friday the 14th in Dutch Quarter, which is especially open for community councils, youthgroups and active community members. The workshop is geared around the Brazilian community methodology the oasis game. The Oasis Game is a three to six or more day event that invites a community to project and build in a cooperative way a challenging project chosen by the members of the community to suit their needs. Projects can range from a square, a park, a kindergarten to a cultural center. The oasis has been applied in Statia, SXM, curacao, bonaire and Aruba in the last two years and has mobilized communities to build collective projects expressed in community playgrounds, community entreprises and has build confidence in people that they can take ownership over the future they dream of. Now, from november 8 till 16th, the senior facilitator of the oasis caribe movement, Kurt Schoop and myself, director of Elos Netherlands will be in SXM. Shortly introducing ourselves we´d like to refer to the Oasis game that took place at the end of 2012, for the first time with succes on SXM, in the community of Dutch Quarter. In a short time we involved the community to jointly build to clean up and uplift the pont near the mainroad. This was one of the key-community-activities that lead to the Oasis Caribe Movement that has the intend of spreading this way of working to islands and communities accross the Carribbean, building sustainable and community-driven livelihoods.
