World Briefing | Europe Bosnia: Convicted War Criminal Welcomed as a Hero By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: August 30, 2013 Singing Serbian national songs and waving flags, more than 2,000 people on Friday welcomed home as a national hero a convicted war criminal, Momcilo Krajisnik. Mr. Krajisnik, 68, was arrested in 2000 and convicted by the Yugoslav war crimes tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands, of persecuting and forcibly expelling non-Serbs during the war in Bosnia from 1992 to 1995. A former speaker of the Bosnian Serb Parliament, he was granted early release from a British prison, where he had served two-thirds of a 20-year sentence. Mr. Krajisnik flew to the Bosnian Serb city of Banja Luka, and a government helicopter took him home to his wartime stronghold of Pale, near Sarajevo.
