World Cup Trivia - V: Goal of the Century Argentina and England never shared as bitter a rivalry as in 1986. Four years after the Falkland wars, both Argentina and England saw their meeting at the 1986 world cup quarter final match as a prestige issue, and both the teams wanted to win the game desperately. Everything was going in favour of England, other than one thing, or rather one individual who redefined the game as we know it - Diego Maradona Maradonas infamous - Hand of the God goal did help Argentina lead in the 51st minute, but it was the goal he scored in the 54th minute that cemented his place in the Footballing history. The Goal of the Century. Maradona dribbled past 5 hapless England defenders and scored what is regarded as the most beautiful goal in world cup history. Wanna see see how beautiful it was? Check out for yourself. We have uploaded the live commentary by Victor Hugo Morales version which is in Spanish and so much more full of emotions than the drab English commentary on that day.
