World Environment Day (WED) is a day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. It also serves as the ‘people’s day’ for doing something positive for the environment, galvanizing individual actions into a collective power that generates an exponential positive impact on the planet. This year the theme of the World Environment Day is the International Year of Small Island Developing States in the broader context of climate change as its theme. The call this year is to recognize that we all face the same challenges and are connected and united by our common goal of a sustainable and prosperous life for all on this planet. The call is to raise our voice in solidarity with one another, particularly with the citizens of the small island states. Global and mountain communities can under take afforestation to increase carbon sink, improve waste management to reduce greenhouse gas and use efficient green technology and renewable energy to reduce carbon emissions. I would like to appeal to people of Darjeeling to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle your waste. Waste management must start from individual homes. Dont wait for your neighbour to clean up your community, you start it. As a part of World Environment Day, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration gave the Morning Health Club 200 exotic plants for planting around the Mall area. we need more greenery in the Chowrasta and the GTA .I would request all to plant more trees in your own community and save our planet.
