World Hijab Day by Mufti Ismail Menk #WorldHijabDay World - TopicsExpress

World Hijab Day by Mufti Ismail Menk #WorldHijabDay World Hijab Day is not a celebration. It is not a festival. It is an awareness drive aimed at educating, encouraging and breaking down barriers as to what hijab is all about. Just like we have annual seminars, conferences, conventions, workshops and campaigns, the first of February is set aside and dedicated to our Muslim females who don the hijab and to get others acquainted with it. The awareness drive is similar to other initiatives held on a yearly basis. Through it, we hope to spread the message that it is our duty to don the correct hijab not for just a day but every single day. Wearing the hijab is not a one-off thing and this message needs to be stressed repeatedly. This awareness drive gives the opportunity to those who have yet to build the courage and give the much-needed push to take that significant first step. It also provides a platform to those who are misinformed and have misconceptions about the hijab to clear their doubts and seek clarification. For those who are inquisitive as to what the hijab is all about, this awareness drive will hopefully allow you to get a firsthand feel of it. Personally, I have seen so much benefit from World Hijab Day and have known and heard of experiences from those who have been impacted positively from this awareness drive. I wish the organizers of World Hijab Day the very best and hope all involved will help towards the success of this educational drive. #WorldHijabDay Question: Is World Hijab Day not an innovation/bidah? Answer by Mufti Ismail Menk (May Allah Protect Him) We cannot base global ideas only on our own situation. We must deeply consider what is happening to others too. Hijab is being banned in a growing number of places. People are misinformed regarding hijab. Democracies may soon vote to ban it based on majority view. This had happened in some places. We need to educate them. If we dont educate them we will be guilty of allowing misconceptions to grow without doing anything meaningful to educate and create positive awareness. We can ask them to enrol to a one day school cant we? We can ask them to attend a seminar once a year cant we? We can ask them to distribute pamphlets cant we? We can ask them to try it out and see how they feel cant we? There is no special salaah or thikr or ibaadah but merely a one day school where pamphlets are distributed, tables are set for street dawah and people have the chance to clear their misconceptions first hand and have a feel of the hijab first hand. It is clear from your opinion that you live in a country where hijab is not yet banned or blocked or stigmatised. Thank Allah for that. But if you follow whats happening in other places you will appreciate the need to educate the masses and encourage Muslims who have succumbed to various types of pressure to abandon what they believe is a duty or who havent built the courage to adopt it yet etc etc. Those who call it a celebration, have failed to see the light. Bidah is the last word to be used because it doesnt fall under any category of acts of worship. It is merely a means of educating, so the time and duration can be worked out according to the convenience of all parties to create the biggest impact. Such as a schools timings and duration of lessons and number of puplis in the class and and and. No celebration or partying. No dancing. No food and drink. No sweets and chocolates. No extra Quraan or prayers. No acts of worship. Only educating and awareness.
