World STUPIDITY Watch: I Hate BART. Day One of Christians Commute: So, my Oakland-SF-Oakland commute went partially well today. I rode my bike to Jack London Square to board the ferry. Had a pleasant sailing past the busy Port of Oakland that was amazing to watch in action. Then we saw the new span of the Bay Bridge sagging from the traffic jam; glad i didnt drive. We arrived early at the SF Ferry Building. I then caught Munis Bus 14 up Mission and arrived at 16th about 25 minutes later. So, a commute that normally takes under 30 minutes took about 60+mins. My fellow passengers and I sat on the sunny bow enjoying the view. I sat next to a young Chinese artist quietly sketching. Across from me a mustachioed gent enjoyed a morning Bloody Mary. People were smiling. It was lovely and the sun warm. SO! My return home began at 5pm and ended at 7.45! 55 minutes to take Bus 14 back to the Ferry Building; I got off the bus when it got stuck in traffic wanting to go on the Bay Bridge. I then got in another long line--of six--for about 45 minutes to wait to embark the Oak-bound ferry. I read. I did Yoga asanas. Other people started to copy my yoga. We laughed at our plight. Once aboard I bought my Bloody Mary and watched a gorgeous, ginormous full moon above the sparkling Bay Bridge with a silvery path stretching to Oakland. It was magical. My fellow passengers murmured disbelief at its beauty. A thousand pictures were captured. The Bay Bridge sagged under tons of snarled traffic as we bounced along to Oakland that was so bright with port lights. It looked lovely. So, no thanks to those pampered proles who have greatly disrupted Life in the Bay. I call on all Cali politicians to pass legislation banning any transportation entity this large from striking and wreaking such havoc on innocent lives. This type of hostage-taking must stop. Being from an area with no mass transit I used to marvel at and defend BART... but not anymore. Two strikes in less than three months is too, too much. Death to BART! Praise the Ferry System!
