World in Bangalore The 6th edition of BIFFES - Bangalore International Film Festival, to be held between December 26th, 2013 and January 2nd, 2014. For the 6th year running, BIFFES is changing the way the world thinks through Education in Cinema and Cinema in Education. The festival is restricted to full length feature films only The festival is being organized by the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy for the Govenment of Karnataka supported by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce. Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka State in India, is an important centre of International film culture in keeping with Karnatakas glorious heritage and the States achievements in the fields of literature, fine arts, and cinema. The Kannada Film Industry has made signal contribution to the quality and range of cinematic expression and grown to produce over a 100 films every year.Films from Karnataka have won national and international recognition and critical acclaim at various Film Festivals. We can recall that the 5th edition which was held during 20-27, December 2012 was a very big success with 175 films, across 9 Screens, from more than 45 countries, and witnessed by more than 4000 delegates who enjoyed and appreciated the quality of the cinemas presented. The sixth edition to be held this year between December 26th, 2013 and January 2nd, 2013 will have different sections as showcased below. The selection of films will be decided on by carefully selected expert committees. 1. Cinema of the World 2. Asian Cinema 3. Chitrabharathi(Indian Cinema) 4. Kannada cinema 5. Retrospectives 6. Country Focus 7. NETPAC award winners 8. FIPRESCI award winner 9. Special genre: Train films Like the two previous editions, Competition sections for Indian Cinema and Kannada Cinema will also be held with handsome cash prizes in addition to a Special award to be presented by NETPAC for Asian Cinema. The festival will also host various forums for academic interactions like seminars, workshops and master classes for the students on different aspects of cinema. About Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy was formed by the Government of Karnataka in 2009 to promote film culture in Karnataka. The Academy has taken up several projects to develop a healthy film culture in the state and adopted the motto of promoting Education in Cinema and Cinema in Education. KCA has been conducting Film Appreciation Courses in different parts of the state, in colleges and film societies. It has also promoted the establishment of district, institutional and campus film societies all over the state. It engaged the members of these societies to participate in the first-ever KCA International Film Festival, a low-budget event with DVD screenings of 100 films, which found overwhelming response in Bengaluru and four other districts of Karnataka. Since its inception years ago, KCA has witnessed phenomenal growth. Following the roaring success of its first ever festival, it is today one of the most anticipated events of the year. With a fan base that has grown by leaps and bounds, KCA draws like minds from all over the country every year,including big industry names. The Academy is mandated by the government to conduct the 6th BIFFES, the international film festival in Bengaluru, from Dec 26, 2013, for a week, showcasing the Best in Cinema from around the world. Filmmakers, film critics and the film fraternity are invited to to participate in the festival.
