World peace seems to hinge on the middle peace conflict, even - TopicsExpress

World peace seems to hinge on the middle peace conflict, even though during recent years, thousands and thousands more have died in African tribal wars. I’m sad to report that the tally of innocent deaths of people killed by the United States has has dwarfed the deaths of Palestinians by the Israelis. But still, there is a great weight hanging in the balance on Israel and Palestine. Perhaps because the eyes of three interrelated religions, representing billions of people, are focused on this issue. Their own scriptures teach that they are sons and daughters of the same ancestor, Abraham. There was a break up in that family and that wound has become nations. Then there is the story of an oppressed people who were attacked by a more powerful force seeking greater living room for themselves, Germany, squeezed into walled ghettos and camps. What would those oppressed people do when they themselves because the greater power in a land in which they sought their own greater living room? The prospect for Peace seems so remote, with hatreds and wounds empowering leaders to choose a strategy that never really seeks peace and reconciliation. I wish everyone could see through the eyes of their enemy, to know what life is like in their shoes, experiencing everything from their side of the fence. I wrote half a novel once about a Jew who was mistakenly raised in the West Bank by Muslims. We are so locked in our justifications and perspectives. Humanity really needs to pull off a miracle to survive and if somehow people found forgiveness and peace in the Mideast, it would shift the direction of the planet. Governments aren’t seeking peace. The people must demand it. I can’t even imagine what it would take to shift the hearts of these people. It would be something akin to Grace.
