World’s Best Short Films to “Reel” in at The Madison Theatre at Molloy College. Join us for an amazing night of films on March 6th at 7:30pm Asbury Shorts, New York City’s longest running short film exhibition, presents its acclaimed national touring showcase: “The 33rd Asbury Short Film Concert” at The Madison Theatre on Thursday, March 6th. The theater is located on the campus of Molloy College in Rockville Centre, Long Island. The first film hits the screen at 7:30pm. Special Guest Host is comedian Paul Anthony of the Long Island Comedy Festival. The Asbury Short Film Concert, founded on Long Island in 1980 by former film students from the New York Institute of Technology, features the best in short comedy, drama and outstanding animation without promoting competition. Academy Award nominated Director Jason Reitman (“JUNO”, “Up in the Air”, “Thank You for Smoking”) calls Asbury Shorts: “The best short film show I’ve ever seen!” Screening classic shorts combined with new international festival winners, ASNY provides a rare opportunity for the public to see world-class films on the big screen as opposed to an iPad or computer. Highlights of the concert on March 6th include: “Local Commercial” starring John Ratzenberger, best known for his iconic role of the obnoxious mailman ‘Cliff’ on the classic TV series: “Cheers.” “Local Commercial” was conceived and directed by Richard and Didi Dobbs of Mom & Pop Productions. Mr. Dobbs is an award winning filmmaker who has directed episodes of the NBC TV series: “Law & Order” and “Law & Order, Special Victims Unit.” “Retire for the Evening” written and directed by Ed Hellman. This unique short was an official selection in the 2013 New Filmmakers Los Angeles competition and a Finalist in the School of Visual Arts Live Action Short Film Graduate Program competition. Mr. Hellman’s dark story is about a sock puppet vainly trying to continue the act after his partner dies. “Two Shots” – from Long Island based award-winning independent filmmaker Dino Castelli. This dramatic story of a police officer trying to escape his demons was nominated for Best Short Film at The 2013 Long Island International Film Expo and was an Official Selection for the 2013 Big Apple Film Festival Asbury Shorts Concerts have taken place at such prestigious venues as The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Royal Festival Hall in London, Lake Shore Theater in Chicago, The Director’s Guild Theater in Manhattan, The AERO Theatre in Los Angeles, Summer Stage in Central Park and the Leminske Theater in Berlin. Paul Anthony is a New York based comedian. He is best known for the Long Island Comedy Festival, which travels across the tri-state area each summer. Paul also works at Long Islands #1 radio station, WALK 97.5. The Madison Theatre at Molloy College is located at 1000 Hempstead Avenue in Rockville Centre, Long Island.
