#WorshipWednesday Fresh off a truly inspirational set for #goodie no. 28; this Worship Wednesday we present Pete Moss! Moss has been a staple in the Philly dance scene for close to two decades. The longevity of his career is based on a signature sound that remains true to the principals of House and what lies in the heart of the producer. This formula has taken Pete and his music across many global dance floors, leaving a whole generation of dance enthusiasts inspired and motivated to contribute to the scene. Pete’s illustrious career has shown no signs of slowing down, as he continues to have successful releases on some of the world’s most prominent labels. In looking at Pete’s body of work as a whole, we decided to take a step back and explore an early achievement of his on Worship Recordings entitled Desert Lightening. Desert Lightening was released on The Zen Method EP back in 2001 (WOR.12). The spine of this tune is the stomping bass line that serves as a central nervous system to the track, commanding its counterparts to move. The accessories to this bass line are lucid high hats and swirling effects that are programmed and effected to perfection. In speaking with Pete about this project, the producer looked back on Desert Lightening with fond memories. Moss explained that at the time of its production he first completed the main A-side cut for the E.P, “R U Serious”, and then wanted to design a track that transcended beyond the dance floor. Pete explained that he wanted this tune to have a linear progression, touching more on the cognitive side of dance music. The vocal sample in the track is Pete’s own voice- he simply pitched it down using his Akai s5000 sampler. Pete reminisced about the days of using outboard gear and being surrounded by a matrix of wires and flashing lights, shining a bit of light on how todays production methods have been streamlined and perhaps slightly simplified. Be sure to head over to the labels YouTube channel to listen to all three tracks on Petes The Zen Method EP: “R U Serious”, “Make it Werk” and Desert Lightening.
